Description

6.5 h of LRGB data.

NGC-4565 is about 40 million ly away. It has a central pseudobulge that is rectangular or box-shaped and probably represents the bar of a barred spiral galaxy seen on end. The galaxy is slightly warped - one end of the spiral arms is slightly tipped up and the other down. This might be due to interaction with a satellite galaxy.  Two are visible here, NGC-4562 and IC-3571. The mouse-over plate solve shows several galaxies in the PGC catalog and others are visible. There are some very faint star-like structures that look like spilled salt off the right (southeast) end of NGC-4565 that are listed as a distant galaxy cluster in Larry Mitchell's galaxy catalog that he made while working on the star atlas Megastar.
